Short answer
It is on a rating tag, and where depends on the appliance: Whirlpool puts refrigerator tags at the top left of the food compartment, washers inside the lid or on the back, dryers inside the door or on the back frame, ranges in the burner box or underneath, and dishwashers on the upper left of the frame. GE model numbers always begin and end with a letter.

Reading it
- GE and GE Profile model numbers always begin and end with a letter; a number like 317b6641p001 on a range label is a part number (GE).
- Some newer GE tags have a QR code you can scan.
- Kenmore model numbers start with a three-digit maker prefix: 790 is Frigidaire-built, 795 is LG (Sears PartsDirect).
- Many brands put a revision or version at the end, which can change the parts (Sears PartsDirect).
Take a photo of the whole tag. It is the single most useful thing to send with a service request.
